Check to see if you have a row in your View Criteria

eg. In your BC you might using         

// ViewCriteriaRow r = (ViewCriteriaRow)vc.getCurrentRow(); //this will break it!!!!!!!!!!

instead of:

ViewCriteriaRow r = (ViewCriteriaRow)vc.first();  //this is the correct approach
